Why did my dog all of a sudden start peeing and pooping in the house?
We have an 8 year old, spayed female chow/shepard mix named Ginger. A few weeks ago, she started peeing and pooping in the house (she pees in the house at least once a day, poops less often than that). We have tried a number of things. We thought maybe the first time was an accident, so we cleaned the spot well (with enzymatic cleaner to eliminate the odor), but it keeps happening in the same 2 spots. We took her to the vet and he says that she seems to be in good health. They tested her urine and it came back clean. They also tested blood 6 months ago and everything was fine (kidneys, liver, etc.). The vet believes it isn't incontinence, since she seeks out the same spots to go. We originally thought it was separation anxiety (which we know she has a problem with) until she started going in the house, even though everyone was around. She has always been very good about letting us know she has to go out, but she gives us no warning. Her routine has stayed the same, as well as what/when she eats. She doesn't appear to be drinking more than usual. We managed to totally block off the areas where she goes, but then she just got as close as she could, and she did her business. We take her outside at least 4 times a day, and she goes every time. Sorry for the long question, just trying to give as much info as possible.

I'm currently doing a diploma in Animal Care, and I have covered this :)
The only thing I can think of is either if something has changed in your house. Examples include: if a person moved in or moved out, a change of appearance within the house (rooms, ornaments etc.) or the change of appearance of a person (different scent/look/actions/mood).

Your dog is just reacting to the change as they still need to get used to it or they are bothered by something. It's their way of showing that. Or it could be due to a recent trauma, through an accident during grooming/playing or something else.

If you're concerned about your dogs health, always get checked out at the vet for reassurance and advice :)

    Hope I helped!

I did try to think of changes in her environment, and I can't think of anything that has changed. This has going on for about 3-4 weeks.

She did hurt her paw while playing a little while ago. She was running and stopped quickly and she seemed to have twisted something. She limped for about a day, but that was it. I can't remember for sure, but I think this happened after she already started having problems in the house.

I really do think it's behavioral, but if I can't abate the situation, she'll take a trip back to the vet and I'll have them redo the bloodwork.

    Thanks!

HI, My dog just started random peeing in the house. Not in the same spot, but the same room, or at least what I am catching. Anyway I am wondering if you ever found the issue or how long it took to go away and what you did to make it stop?? Thanks!
