    Wisdom teeth hole in cheek
I got 3 wisdom teeth removed on Friday, 5 days ago, with 2 on top and 1 on the bottom. The 2 on top seem fine but I had stitches stretching across my cheek and gums so they could remove my impacted bottom wisdom tooth. The stitches dissolved in 4 days and now there's a large hole/flap in my cheek. Should I go back to my dentist office to have it re-stitched or will it heal on its own? My dentist told me the stitches would dissolve in about 5 days so that seems normal but I don't know why there's a hole now.

I would appreciate any advice because this office charges for every visit/consult and honestly I really don't want to have to go back in for stitches.

This sounds like a good question to ask your dentist by phone. At least, you will get his honest and professional answer as to whether it needs more attention and restitching.

It sounds likely that the blood that was supposed to clot in the space that your tooth used to be was in some way removed, perhaps spat out, swallowed, rinsed out etc etc.. This will have prevented the gums healing over the top of it. Instead you are left with a dry socket, which will likely have to have opened and restitched.

The dentist/nurse should have provided you written/oral instructions on how to proceed after the extractions. And emphasis is usually always given on how important that the clotting is.

5-7 days after an extraction you should be seen by your dentist free of charge regardless if you had dissolvable stitches or not. Shame on your dentist!

I agree, if in doubt have the dentist check, and I also agree within this short time, they should check it for free.
My bet it more feels like a hole because the gums have not receded back in place yet but who knows, not all stitches always work right and come out too early.

Better safe. I would have it checked
