One of three USB ports work with certain devices

I have a Dell laptop with 3 USB ports. Only one seems to work when I connect my camera. The other two still work with items such as a hard drive. Any ideas?

I ger error messages when I plug a device into either port on my PC... Do I have to replace it? If so, is it difficult, and about how much should it cost?. I have very little experience with this type of thing. Thanks.
