The air handler comes on and runs continually. I can turn it of by selecting off and it stays off for a while. If there is a call for heat the fan will continue to run instead of turning off after the normal 2 minute cool-down period. When I select 'off' I hear a click of a switch or relay. What would hold this switch in the operate mode?

Honeywell model T8611G turns the air handeler on and it stays on until I manually switch the thermostat to off. When I switch to either heat or auto the air handeler will come on even if there is no call for heat. I understand the fan will operate for about 2 or 3 minutes in a cool down mode after a call for heat is satisfied but this one stays on until I manually switch to off. When I operate the switch to off I hear a make or break contact inside. If I manually switch back to heat or auto the fan does not come back on immediately but when it does, it stays on.

Try unhooking the g wire from the thermostat and let me know if that takes care of the issue. If it does, then you need a new stat. If it doesn't, unhook the g wire in the air handler. Let me know what you find.
