What is a good digital camera for college?
Hi, my camera is horrible, and I was wondering if anybody has any suggestions for a good digital camera I can buy. I would want it for college and stuff. My camera's pictures turn out horrible and dark. Any advice appreciated

Personal preference is towards Olympus and Cannon's on the point and clicks.

What sort of thing are you looking for ?

Really most of the modern camera take good pictures. But here are some things to look for. The higher the MP for picture taking the clearer the picture (resolution). Also if I were you I would get a sport version camera as they are waterproof. You never know when that comes in handy. Last but not least storage. So long as it has an expansion slot to add a memory card then you will be set to go. Also make sure it has inboard flash.

I am brand loyal to Sony cameras, both the point and shoots and the dSLRs... They have great technology in both. Some examples are the Sweep Panorama, face detection, and smile shutter (mostly if not exclusively on the point/shoots I think)...

Nikon, Canon, and Olympus are good choices as well. Though I don't have any experience with them I know that I've never had a friend complain about them...

Keep in mind that the more mega pixels there are means bigger file sizes on your hard drive... Many websites restrict upload sizes as well...

Possibly most important; when shopping and reading the features be sure to disregard any "digital zoom" specs. Look for a higher "Optical Zoom"...
Digital zoom is a crop of the full optical zoom which is then interpolated (pixels are added to make the full mega pixel size) which takes a toll on image quality...

Think of it this way, 15x Optical zoom is much better than 20x Digital zoom

Definitely the Canon PowerShot. Amazingly easy to use. Fantastic photos.
