    Well problems
I have no water coming into my home. I am on a well that is very old (not upgraded to today's standards (i.e. underground with no visible indicator in the yard). Inside my garage is a holding tank (w/bladder inside) and a motor/pump mounted to the top side. I can hear pump running but no water. Changed screw-in fuse, no change. Had an electrician come, not an electrical problem. Plumber came and said motor/pump needs to be replaced, says he is having probs finding the part. After calling around to "well" specific companies, I was told that the problem is in pressure foot valve. Will have to dig up to replace foot/valve. Please advise, don't know what to do. Replace motor/pump or bite the bullet and replace foot/valve or a third option I am unaware of ?

That's the e expensive way to repair. You weren't giver 6the option of a less costly one?

A foot valve is simply a check valve in sand point located at the bottom of your well. If the check valve's open it would allow the pump to lose prime and run dry. So you're left with a well point with a open check valve. However, since the well point is still functioning why not simply install a new check valve on the suction line next to the pump? This would allow your pump to retrain prime and operate normally. Sound like a plan? Cheers, Tom
