On Monday I got a mix of a lab & golden retriever. He is about 10.5 weeks old according to the papers they gave me. He has had shots and is supposedly wormed.

On Monday just after we got him home he seemed to be fine. He was mild and laid around a lot. I started mixing his food from the shop with some puppy chow (based on the directions on the back of the bag) and he ate find Monday. Tuesday he went out and ate some grass (I assumed his stomach hurt) and he threw it up. He also had loose stool too. Yesterday and today he hasn't eaten more than a bit or two and even cut back on his water today. He still has the loose stool but is quite active with me and my kids for part of the day and then just sleeps the rest of it.

I did already call the vet and they haven't called back with an opening yet. I am just wondering if anyone else experienced this with a new puppy. I have 3 labs now and the other 2 never had any problems.

This is not normal. Most Goldens are nearly as bad as Labs about being gluttons. I know my 7 month old Lab/Golden is. If you are not feeding the same chow as the breeder, that may have thrown him off. I wouldn't panic, but I would take the first opening the vet has. Take his shot records and let your vet set up his schedule. It seems you are constantly running in for shots at first.

I wasn't thinking it was normal either. (as I have had the other 2 labs as pups also) and tomorrow the vet should call with her earliest opening for me.

I am most worried about how long he can go on like this! He hasn't eaten more than a nibble here and there since late Monday afternoon (he ate well Monday like I said) I may not get him in to the vet until Friday or Monday.

I am trying his food that he was on straight now (was mixed with new stuff) and he is still not interested.

:( My poor pup! I am completely in love with him and the kids would be so sad if he didn't make it.

Maybe I should have been more reassuring in my first post. If he was the typical butter ball most puppies are, a few days without eating shouldn't be a problem. If he is not eating now, something is wrong, but as long as he has good energy, he should be fine. You might watch to see if the kids are sneaking him goodies not good for him.

He is not so much the butterball. He was kind of thin (my husband has GREAT dog picking skills... ) and acting sick too. He went out, ate some grass and threw up again. I think I will either BEG my vet to get him in tomorrow. Or else will be forced to spend unreal amounts of money on the emergency vet. No eating+throwing up is worrying me a ton! :( Poor pup. He is still so sweet and goes to the door if he wants to throw up.

Oh. He is in the crate when the kids eat so he can't get kiddie goodies.

I know I'm late here, but I just wanted to say that when my family first got our golden 10 years ago, she started as a sickly puppy. She wasn't much of a butterball and was SO sweet, but really lethargic and didn't eat much. We took her to the vet and it turns out that she had some sort of infection. The vet gave us some medicine that we gave to her, and she soon improved and became the wiggly, cheeky puppy that we expected her to be. :) I hope you had success at the vet and that your puppy is on its way to feeling better.

I'm so sorry to hear that your pup passed away. Was it parvo virus? If so, its entirely likely that there was nothing that you could have done sooner that would have changed the outcome. You should definitely contact the person/place where you got your pup, if he had something contagious other puppies could be at risk. Again, I'm so sorry for your loss.

Chances are, what she really needs is a little more time and lots of love. If not, a vet visit is more likely to be the solution than rich food. You lack the essential I start with in the sticky, knowing the dog. The problem may require faster action for Labs that are typically gluttons than a Shepherd, often picky eaters.
