    The meaning of the indicator - Improper Unit Operation
    The burner flame test for the heating unit indicates Improper Unit Operation.
    Does that mean that the heat exchanger is broken and I need to replace the furnace?

    Not sure with such little info of what you have. It could mean that the burners did not light, in turn would= bad ignitor, dirty burners, low or no gas pressure or just a dirty flame sensor.
