    F1->H1. Standard deduction?
    Hello Tax experts,

    I'm an indian student on OPT till otober and then converted to H1. Single, no dependents. Can some one clarify my assumptions.

    I can fill 1040NR EZ form as non resident?
    I don't have to file dual status tax?

    Can I use the standard deduction (5150) under Indian student category? I'm on on F-1 only till October.

    Yes, you CAN claim the standard deduction under the Indian Student category. Do not forget to file the Form 8843 one last time.

    For 2007, you will file as a resident alien, filing Form 1040, 1040A or 1040EZ.
