    Lung Nodule
Hi, I have a 8mm non-calcified lung nodule in my upper right lobe. A recent PET Scan showed no intake, probably benign. The 6 month follow-up CT Scan showed no growth. I was just exposed to mold in a hotel and had an allergic reaction. I have 2 questions about my nodule:1.) Will the mold have any affect on my nodule? 2.) Can smoking turn a benign non-calcified nodule in a malignant nodule. Thank you very much! Rambler1

When you smoke, anything out of the ordinary will have a worse effect on your lungs. Your lungs are coated with varnish and filled with sooty fluid that collects in the sacs from not being able to freely exchange gasses. I can't believe that your doctor hasn't read you the riot act about that.

We shouldn't comment on the nodule, the mold, or the likelihood of cancer, because your doctor is the one with far more information than you have given here. For the most part, molds are not toxic and you need long exposure to get more than an allergic reaction such as sniffles and cough.

Keep going back for measurement every time you are told and make every possible effort to stop smoking. The friends I have who were able to stop ONLY could do it with lots of exercise, particularly running. It might have something to do with insulin and blood sugar levels that mimic smoking, not sure.

    Hi Joypulv,
Thank you for your response. I do not smoke but I am around second hand smoke a lot being in the music business. I also, run 4 times a week. I was wondering if the smoke could turn a benign into a malignant or will the mold do the same. Really appreciate your response. Peace,

I wouldn't worry about the mold unless you live it day in and day out.
The smoke - yes, although even medical researchers have differing opinions about it.
