Kenmore washer 110.25842400 will not finish the rinse cycle
My 80 series kenmore washer model number 110.25842400 will fill and wash and start a rinse cycle then stop mid rinse cycle and not continue from there. I have replaced the lid switch which did break while trying to figure out the problem. The washer is still stopping mid rinse cycle and not continuing. Ran with and without clothes. Still happening. Help! Is this the timer or something else?

Hello,
It sounds like a timer problem. You have a gear inside that has broken, which is rare on most machines. When you replace the timer save the motor as it can be removed and used on other timers if you ever need one. DrTom4444

Have you tried advancing the timer a little bit to see if you can get it to keep going? Timers can be expensive and I would hate to see you buy something you don't need, however, there is nothing else I can think of that would cause the problem you described. I would find a used appliance place. They always have plenty of timers that they can sell you cheaply. DrTom4444

I have advanced the timer till I get to the spin cycle and then it finishes like there was never a problem. I am going to look for the part as cheaply as possible. Thank you so much for the help.

You have found that you have a broken tooth on the gear in the timer. Gears made in China have this problem, as do their bearings. Someone very good with mechanical skills like a clock repairer could fix it, but you can get a used one for about $10-20. Good luck, and let us know what happens, please. DrTom4444

I found a site that has the part for 109.99 plus shipping which saves 25.00 from getting it at sears. Unfortunately I haven't been able to locate a used appliance store for parts.

It looks like you should just get the new one then. At least you saved $200 for labor. You may find a service bulletin if you check Sears out. At least with the new one you know what you have will last a long time, just be very careful and pull one wire off at the time and change it over. Use needle-nose pliers and pull from the connectors that plug onto the timer. It should be easy to fix. Let us know how it works out. DrTom4444

Well it isn't the timer. Got it today by fedex and put it in and still doing the same thing! Any other suggestions?

The only other thing I can think of that controls that is the water level switch. Try shorting it out when it stops and see what happens. If it starts you may be able to just adjust it. That is very unusual. DrTom4444

It is near the timer and has a hose attached going to the drum. It has a diaphragm with an adjustment screw on the back with two wires attached to the switch. DrTom4444

Kesn, make sure the hose from the water level switch to the drum is clear of any build-up (blow through it). Will the rinse cycle start if you advance the new timer? Sometimes new parts are bad. Good luck

Very good point. I still believe something is wrong with that timer, but the fill switch should be ruled out. DrTom4444

Hi All. Turned out to be a clogged water line and who ever in my family hooked it up had the cold water line to the hot and the hot to cold. Cleaned the screens and hooked them up correctly and used the new timer. Have to keep because old one not working with the turn dial anymore. Either way better than buying a new washer. Thank you all soooo much for your help!
