    Contractions
I started having contractions on Monday. I went to my doctor on Wednesday for a check up. She said my cervix was shortened a little and put me on procardia. I hate the medicine. But more than that I hate the fact that I was not monitored or checked more thoroughly. Is this normal? Should I get a second opinion. Oh, and I did take the medicine this morning, but I've still had some contractions.

Procardia is a very important medication for a pregnant woman with a heart condition.

This medication is used to prevent certain types of chest pain (angina). It may allow you to exercise more and decrease the frequency of angina attacks.

Procardia (Nifedipine) belongs to a class of medications known as calcium channel blockers. It works by relaxing blood vessels so blood can flow more easily. This medication must be taken regularly to be effective. It should not be used to treat attacks of chest pain when they occur. Use other medications (such as sublingual nitroglycerin) to relieve attacks of chest pain as directed by your doctor. Consult your doctor or pharmacist for details.

Is this your first pregnancy? Actually you are the one responsible for being diligent in your medical checks with your doctor when you are pregnant.

We don't know your medical history regading your pregnancy, so can't diagnose here on AMHD, but the fact that you were prescribed a medication like this is important.

If you are more comfortable with a second opinion, are pregnant with a heart condition, then yes I would think so.

How far along are you? Procardia is effective with some women in stopping preterm labor.
