I have a Lennox pulse furnace model no g1403-80-2 with a blower motor I am replacing. I am trying to figure out the wiring for the new motor. On the old motor, the wiring was as follows White - comm, Black - High, Yellow - Med, Red - low and 2 Purple capacitor wires. The new motor is a GE ECM Motor Model#5SME39HL with the wire colors of Red, Green, Yellow, Blue and the Capacitor wires are 1 Black and 1 White. There is no wiring diagram on the motor. Can anyone tell me how to figure out where these new motor wires go?

Somewhere, on motor or the box it came in has to have wiring instructions,, if not get your money back

The only problem with this is that it's a new motor to me, I got it from a friend, not a store... So there is no box and I didn't buy it.

Sounds like a 4 speed motor. Only thing I can't figure out, is it seems to be missing a couple of brown wires for the capacitor. All the 4 speed motors Ive seen have a black(high speed), blue (med-hi), yellow(med-low) and red(low). White is common, green is ground, and usually there are two brown, or purple wires that go to the cap. Can you post a picture of the motor? Also, is the a 115v motor, or a 208/230v motor?

Okay. Sorry, but I would even need a wiring diagram for the "new" one. Before I wasted too much time on the wiring, I would see if the new one even mounts to the squirell cage without hitting the blower wheel (looks like its quite a bit longer than the old one. And even if it does mount to the cage without hitting the wheel, make sure the complete assembly will slide into the furnace blower compartment (motor may stick out to far and hit the side of the furnace, not allowing the assembly to slide in.)

In reallity, your best bet would be to take the old motor to an hvac company and see if they have something that will match up a little (or a lot) better. Either way, make sure you get the correct size of capacitor to match the motor that is going in the furnace.

If the new motor you have there fits, and you figure out how it needs to be wired, please let me know, as Im always interested in hearing how things turned out. Take care, and good luck.

First off I was given this motor by a friend who works with heating and air conditioning systems, and I'm just trying to figure out if it will even work. On the old motor, the wiring diagram showed White - comm, Black - High, Yellow - Med, Red - low and 2 Purple capacitor wires, but when I look at the furnace diagram and follow the wires, the black wire goes from the motor to a blower relay which is marked on the diagram Cooling Speed Connection. The yellow goes from the motor and connected with two 2 red wires going to the blower relay and the fan limit switch and was marked on the diagram Heating Speed Connection. The red was never connected and just taped off, with the white common. This old motor was a 115v 1/3hp, and the new 120/240v 1/2 hp.

Thanks, I am getting ready to take out both motors from their cages to see the newer one will even fit.

Is there any chance you could have the friend who gave you the motor stop by some night after work and help you with this? He should be able to get you all fixed up, or at least let you know if the motor will work or not on your system. Offer him dinner and free beer for the night, and see if he will help you out. Other than that, without a wiring diagram for the new motor, or knowledge of how the new motor was hooked up in the last unit it was in, you would have to resort to a series trial and error wiring, which could result in further damage to the system. I will think on this, and look at some of the old motors at the shop and see if I can come up with anything, but Im afraid I won't be able to help out with this one. Best of luck.

We`ll probably never no if he got it working or not. Its very,very,seldom that we here back from anybody that writes in a question,, we don`t even no if they read our response. The only times we do here something is the times they get advice and it turns out to be wrong guess. We can`t do much more than that not being able to be there and do and eyeball look-over
