    4,16,49,169,256

    4 = 2*2
    16 = 4*4
    49 = 7*7
    169 = 13*13
    256 = 16*16

    I'm not sure whether this (below) could be the trend:

    As you see they are square numbers. Their pattern is +2, +3, +6, +3 because you have 2^2, 4^2, 7^2, 13^2, 16^2.

    This may suggest that you need to add 2 to the 16 to get the next term. The next square number could be 16+2 = 18. And 18^2 = 324.

    So, it's maybe: 4, 16, 49, 169, 256, 324. (and ends here, there are no other terms because there is nothing before adding two.)

    The key to the number sequence is that you need treat every digit of the numbers as separate, add them, and square the result. Ans:- 4(4^2=16) 16(1+6=7, 7^2=49) 49(4+9=13, 13^2=169) 169(1+6+9=16, 16^2=256)-------- 169 (2+5+6=13, 13^2=169) I'm astounded to see that the chem. And maths expert and the ultra member failed to answer such an easy question. I am currently in 7th grade.

    There can be numerous ways to solve a problem, and there might be numerous valid solutions to that. I provided with one, I never said it was THE solution, I said that it was MAYBE the solution.

    It goes just like a pyramid:

    2 3 6 3 2

    This can be a pattern, as:

    1 2 3 4 5 4 3 2 1

    Can be.

    I think that the thumbs down you gave me was wrongfully given.

    Secondly, take note that this thread was created in 2010, I don't think that the poster will come back to see your answer, which will be pointless.

    Last, double posting is not something appreciated on forums. There is an edit button that works within 24 hours of posting which is at your disposal.
