    Finishing repairs
    What if the basement was nicely finished (drywall, carpet etc... )? I understand the landlord has a responsibility to fix the problem (foundation problems in my case) and clear the basement of any health hazards, BUT does the landlord have a responsibility to REfinish off the basement with new carpet, baseboards, drywall??

    Thanks for any help.

    Hello D:

    If you're paying rent for carpet, then he needs to install carpet.. In other words, he must return your apartment to it's original condition, or renegotiate the lease if he won't.
