    Oxycontin addiction
    I have been taking (6) 80mg extended release tablets at a time (daily) for too long. I've kicked the monkey off my back in the past by just being "sick" for 5 or so days. Can you give me some kind of guideline for titrating down. This is day 2 on the first day I took one tablet then "needed" another to get through the night. Help please dan

    Dude you got to go to a detox. My cousin went through the same thing. Tried to quit but the cravings always got him to start taking them again. He finally went to a detox and rehab and he kicked it. He has been clean for 2 years now and is a completely different person.

    I wouldn't dare and any information provided would necessarily be inaccurate. There are two primary factors involved, one is the drug and the other is you. Informed advice depends on a thorough knowledge of both.

    If you are unable to obtain medical advice, you might think of conferring with a pharmacist, in person. If that isn't possible you are probably left with self-gauging, as noted above. Gradual dose reduction within the daily limits of personal tolerability.

    Of course, as noted by spitvenom above, supervised detox is the preferable method and involves the least discomfort.

    I've read that a % reduction is much more important than a mg reduction.
    The suggestion was 18%, but not all linear. You might hit a plateau and have too much pain, and may need to maintain it for a while before reducing again.
    This all assumes that you have chronic pain, not just an addiction. If you have a doctor who isn't asking you the right questions, find another.
    The rest is the usual exercise, hydration, and good diet.
