Is controlling my dreams normal?
Hello. Um, I'm an average college student with normal sleeping patterns. I've just always wondered if it's normal to control dreams. I can control about 80% of my dreams, literally doing whatever I want to do. If I want to imagine me playing Football, I can easily do it, if I wanted to think about driving a fast car I can do it. But the problem is that when I have full control of my dreams, I feel like I get stuck in it so I have 2 forcefully wake myself up by killing myself in the dream. Mind you, its scary as hell trying to do that. Also, all the dreams I have, on most of them, I know that I'm dreaming and when I know I'm dreaming, that's when I take control. So, is it normal? I would love an answer, Thank You!

If you think this is possible in a dream state then you are delusional, spending too much time on your computer and watching too many virtual reality movies. You need counselling to learn how to take control of your basic existence; you need friends to provide a social environment and foremost you need to get out of your room.

Second, next time you comment on someone's Question, I suggest you re-read what you have read because you have made yourself look like a complete dumbass. Reinstating what I said on the question, I SAID IF ITS NORMAL THAT I CAN ACTUALLY DO THAT.

Hi Espinal, if you don't like the answers, don't post; you definitely sound quite unbalanced.
No, it isn't normal.
We don't appreciate name calling here, which actually indicates your bad manners and inability to cope with any advice.

Actually I have read up a little on lucid dreaming,it takes practice but a lot of people can do it.
Id have to check it up but it has something to do with your indivdual brain makeup.
At a guess I would say you are good at problem solving while awake which tranfers into your dream state.
Try changing the way you wake yourself up,tell yourself you will see an alarm clock in your dream just before you fall asleep, then while dreaming conjour an alarm clock and wake up!
Its quite nifty when you can do it.
There's so much we don't know about the mind and brain.
So to finish, perhaps 'normal' is not quite the word I would use,but lucid dreaming is not uncommon.

The above is a link to a site I found, there's plenty of material on lucid dreaming.

I actually do it all the time. It's the only way I can sleep without the use of medications/herbal supplements.
Now, mind you, I don't "kill" myself in my dreams, but I do concentrate on what I want to dream about as I am trying to fall asleep.
It's actually pretty awesome if you can do it.

I have been able to do this for as far back as I can remember. There is usually a point in the dream where it simply clicks "Hey, I am dreaming." From that point on, I can control every aspect of the dream. I can change who is present, the location, even rewind and redo parts that simply didn't do it for me. I have no problem with this ability and I actually quite enjoy it.
As for the waking up part, I don't have to kill myself in the dream. Occasionally, something will happen and startle me, but for the most part, either an alarm or some outside source will jolt me awake.
