Trying to collect on a debt owed by an individual
I am trying to collect on a debt owed by an individual. We had a verbal agreement to be paid back. I am just starting the process and need to know what type of attorney to contact? The amount would be over $25,000. He lives in KS. We lived together in MO for the majority of the time and KS part of the time.

A verbal agreement only? For over $25K??

There's not a lot of detail here, but generally when there is no signed contract to refer back to, things come down to one person's word (thier "understanding" of the agreement) against the other's.

If you lived together and this was an agreement made with in a domestic situation, probably a family lawyer can give you some advice. Otherwise I think you're looking for a lawyer that does civil litigations.

This is strikes me as a messy situation and will likely be difficult and expensive to resolve.
