This morning I went to start my car and it would not start. I checked my battery connection as I didn't hear it even try to turn over. There was powder all around the terminals. I cleaned the terminals off and jumped my car. It started and I drove to work roughly 30 minutes/miles away. I was hoping it would hold a charge which it didn't. Is it time to buy a new battery?

It sounds like a battery will probably solve this.

You also need to have your alternator checked to make sure its charging the battery.

Likely, it is the battery though... but it wouldn't hurt to get the alternator checked as Scott suggested. Why I think it's the battery... if the battery was dead because of the alternator and you jumped it, you probably would not have made it with 30 minutes of driving. The alternator has to be putting out or the car will run off the battery until the battery dies, then the car dies. Alternators do not only charge the battery, they run the electrical system as well.

Car won't Start & It's Not The Battery! [ 2 Answers ]

I have a 95 Altima. It worked fine until one morning I went to start it and got nothing. No horn, no lights, nothing at all. I assumed it had to be the battery but I got the battery tested and I was told that the battery was fine. Does anyone have any clue what the problem might be?
