When your landlord offers to break your lease?
I moved into my condo rental Dec 2010. I signed a 1yr lease. Recently, my landlord advised me the property is on the market for sale. She offered to let us move out early, terminate the lease and give us a good rental reference. I want to move because this person has NO IDEA how to run rental property. She nas NEVER responded to any requests for maintenance. What documents do I need to make this happen withouth recourse?

All you need is a letter from the landlord stating that she is terminating the lease effective x date. I would hold out for her to agree to reimburse you for moving expenses. Also have her agree to return your deposit in full.

Okay, she made you an offer. She wants the property back because she is selling it. She offered to give you a good reference, so what is the problem, just move out as she wants. Take pictures of the condo to make sure there is no recourse for damages, respond to her request to move out, then do it. I don't see a problem in what you state. So she doesn't have any idea how to run a rental property, do you?

Just make sure you have enough time to find other accommodation and advise her of that. She can't show the property without notice if you are still residing.

Where are you located by the way, that makes a lot of different to the answer to your question.

Thank you ScottGem you answer is very helpful! And yes TICKLE I do know that as a tenant I have rights to enjoyment of the property and not answering or responding to the maintenance requests is not part of the contract.

    Thanks!
