We have lived in our house for 3 and a half years. This year is the first year we have had our problem and we had abnormal amounts of snow in the winter and have had rain almost every day since the snow melted. Our problem is that we have water coming into our basement through a drain we think... We are not one hundred percent sure if that is where the water is coming from but that is where the wet spot on the carpet (that covered the drain) was. We are pretty sure it is coming up though either that or the rough in for a bathroom. What would be the best thing for us to do about this problem? We have dried it up and ripped up the carpet and cut out some of the drywall but now we want to fix the problem so that our basement could eventually be useable again!

You must first determine the source/cause of the water. Since the carpet is removed you should see the drain pipe clearly. Once its dry fill your bath tubs and sinks with water. All at once flush all toilets, open all sink drains and turn on all faucets. If you have a drain clog issue this will cause water to back up into your suspect spot. If this produces to change at all then your water could be foundation water from the soil. Where do you live?
