My rabbit was hopping outside and her foot got stuck in a piece of wire near the fence. As she tried to get it out I guess the pulling from it injured her front right leg. I carried her by the vet and she said that the muscle is just a little sore and to keep massaging it and she will start back using it as normal. Well that was more than a month ago and she still isn't walking on it... I am very concerned... Can anyone lend some assistance PLEASE!! Thankz much

The vet told you to massage it? Does this vet know anything about rabbits?

Did the injury tear the skin? Was the rabbit bleeding? Did the vet do x-rays? Were there any tests done?

Obviously this isn't just a sore muscle. If it was your rabbit would be fine after a month.

It's time to go to another vet, someone that specializes in rabbits. Sadly there's really nothing anyone on the internet can do. X-rays need to be taken to find out what's going on.

Severe pulling and/or twisting on a leg can damage nerves in the 'armpit', or the brachial plexis. You didn't say whether she had any use or feeling in the leg, or if it was entirely limp? No matter, as it would only indicates the extent of the damage. While nerves will often regenerate, it takes a long time, and there is no way to tell how completely they will regenerate. Or if they will even start. A nerve will regenerate about 1 millimeter a day, which is about 1/25th of an inch. As the new nerve reaches a muscle, that muscle can begin to function again, but still requires a period of rehabilitation before it regains any semblance of normal use.

Sometimes, due to a lack of feeling, animals will chew on the affected part. It is probably confusing to them why that 'thing' hangs around and does nothing. Sometimes an animal will chew the appendage off, entirely. But, usually an animal so affected will accommodate and learn how to get around without the limb. If it does do that, it is usually best to then have the non functioning limb surgically removed so it stops getting in the animal's way.

Not much 'help' for the rabbit in this, but hopefully it's of some value to you. Best wishes.
