Do I need to replace the fuel pump in my 1999 Honda Accord Ex v-6
I recently bought this csr shortly after the check engine light came on. I took it to the auto parts store and they checked the codes and told me that the code was for the EGR valve, the Emissions gas return valve. He told me that the problem was most likely minor and could be taken care of by simply cleaning the valve cause it most likely is just dirty.

The car had not had any problems until just the other day when I was visiting my daughter about 30 or 40 miles fromn where I live. We were sitting in the car for a few minutes when we heard a strange noise. I found that the niose that sounded like to me to be the fuel pump near the dirvers side rear wheel. The noise would last about 20 to 30 seconds and stop for a few munutes and the kick on again and the car was not running. Shortly after that on the way home it died and it wouldn't start for a few minutes. This has happened 4 times since, in just a couple of days. Ao the question is does it sound like a fuel pump or could it have to do with the EGR valve and is there a way to check to know for sure or maybe something else to check first like the fuel filter before I go pay around 135 for a new pump and then not need it. Thank You to the people that take the time to try and help me.

Did it sound like metal hitting on metal?
Or more like a deep noise?
