    Where is my pilot light
I just moved into a new house, due to an error in scheduling the gas was turned on before the electricity. The gas is on in the home but the furnace doesn't work and I was told that I need to light the pilot to the furnace. The problem that I am facing is that I have no idea what a pilot light looks like. If some one could help me out that would be great!

Assuming that it's a wall furnace on the regulator you will see a 3 position valve /off/on/ pilot -- there will be a little shutter on the front of the firebox that will allow you to look in the firebox --open it -- turn the valve to pilot, press it down and gas will start to flow to the pilot -- start hitting the red igniter button [if it's a really old one you might have to use a long match instead] when you see the pilot ignite stop hitting the igniter but continue holding the valve in -- you need to give the thermo coupling time to heat up. After about 30 sec`s try and release it. If the pilot stays light turn the reg. valve to on -- if it does not catch -- try try again

I guess if you have the newer push button pilot, you can light it without finding it. Otherwise, the above directions will be good once you find the pilot light. Follow the gas pipe into the furnace. It should go to a box with a large tube and 2 smaller tube looking things. The smaller tube supplies gas to the pilot. The other isn't a tube, but the thermocouple, a notorious pain frequently needing replaced.

Need more help? See the sticky at the top of Heating forum.

Note, most furnaces must have electricity to run. ''assuming that it's a wall furnace'' The pilot on a conventional furnace is about the same, but lighting it won't get you heat.
