    Water Cut Off Valve
The handle has broken off the main water shut off valve. The screw on the end is frozen.
I would like to put a new handle on, but the screw is so bad on the end of the stem.
Dangerous too, because if I break it, I cannot turn off the water. Now I am using pliers
See pictures. Maybe a propane torch and penetrating oil would loose it up?

I would not recommend to use a propane torch, Apply some WD-40 let it soak for few minutes and try if you be able to remove the screw, if not you may need to remove and replace the whole stem, good luck.

If I found myself in this situation I'd be calling the city to shut down their main so I could completely swap this old valve out. Galvanic reaction going on here with copper brass and maybe even steel. I'd go all brass ball valve if the city can shut you down for about an hour. I would not be afraid to try a torch or be fearful I could not shut down the main, you already have that.

    Hello Raysylvon,

FYI City will not replace the valve it is home owner responsibility, but the city will shut off the main city valve at the curb.

Bob I miss read the thread I thought that for removal of the screw he wants use the torch, yes if he is changing the shut off valve he needs to use the torch, Thanks.
