I'm looking to remove a jack from the wall and find the wiring it is not as I expected it to be. I do not have land line service now but want to keep the option open. It looks like there is a large bundle of wires coming out and is wired to a set od two smaller bundles going back in (or vice versa) and then connects to the jack plate. I want to remove this blue box because it sticks out beyond the wall. Any help or advice would be greatly appriciated. Thanks.

Best bet is to simply break out the back of the box and stuff wires back in wall. Can't tell what 3 pic is.
If you or someone else decide to use wiring and has a problem with connections they will never be able to find them if you cover up the box.
If you only objection to the box is the fact that it sticks out of the wall, I suggest that you simply sand it flush with the wall using a vibrating sander and then cover it with a blank cover plate. That way if you ever need to the connections you will know where they are.

Thank you for your reply. I like the idea of sanding the box flush since it is reluctant to come out. The dremmel should do the job nicely. So do I just clip the red and green wires leading to the plate at the yellow/clear little connectors?

The answer to "what's this?" is: it is the jack plate that was attached to the wall.

Yes, just clip the wires. A vibrating sander with 100 grit sand paper will sand the plastic box flush with the wall very fast and gives a nice smooth edge. About one or two minutes to sand with a sander like shown below. That allows you to use the screw holes to install cover plate.

OK. Thank you . Just one last question. The jack is in the bathroom and I cannot imagine I will ever want a jack in there again and don't care to keep the option open for a future buyer. So my plan is to bury the wires and patch the wall. Is there any way to check, before I seal it up, that the rest of line in in working order without having the service turned on? Might be a dumb question but...
