The man left message and his name,stated he was schedualed to come to my place of business or home and serve me for a complaint lodged against me. Stated company wants me to call and resolve. Left their number. At end of conversation stated that "you have been notified" Is this legal? Should I respond. Don't know what debt this is. I do have some old debts 4-5 years old.

Collection agencies use numerous scare tactics to get your attention. This sounds like one of them. Saying 'you have been notified' has nothing to do with legallity, but it got your attention. Whoever you owed money to five years ago took a long time to try and collect though. Hadn't you heard any time before this that someone was trying to collect a past due debt?

Collection agencies by the way, do not have 'process servers'.

It probably is illegal for them to come to your place of business though.

It is up to you whether you call them or not; it will only serve to start the whole debt
Collection over again, if it hadn't happened before.

Yes, this is not a process server, this is a lie to get you to call and arrange payments or say something that may start a SOL over again ( if it has ran out)

A process service does not work things out, they merely serve you a court summons. That is all they do, nothing more, nothing less.

This sounds like a variation of what has become a really common phone scam. It plays on the fear of embarrassment that people have by threatening to come to your home or job. When you call back, of course the potential problem can go away for a fee, usually to be sent western union. Of course, your problems wouldn't stop there. Once a scammer finds a sucker, they will try to take you for every penny before selling you info to other scammers. Plug the number into Google and see what you find. Www.800notes.com is also a great option for finding more information. Several tips to keep in mind:

1. A process server cannot fix your issue, and they certainly wouldn't tell you when they are coming so you can avoid service.

2. Never send anything via western union to somebody you do not know personally and extremely well.

3. When dealing with a collection agency, and only make payment agreements in writing.

4. Follow your gut; if something seems off, it very well may be.
