    Help with Heat Pump
Will someone please help. I have a aquacal icebreaker heatpump that trips circuit breaker. I want to try some basic trouble shooting before paying for a service call. The unit powers up with the pool pump. The fan blows and display shows temp. Then I think its when the compressor kicks in that the circuit breaker trips. Is there a likely part that failed wich I could test? Or just replace some less expensive parts that may of failed? I have attached a schematic and some pics. Any and all help is greatly appreciated in advance.

Hi, No answers yet. I have been reading similar posts. Sounds like I will have to call an electrician. I might get some test tools and try some stuff first. I have all summer to try now. Don't need it for awhile now. If you get any help, email me ([email protected]) and I will do the same if you send your email. Thanks Tom

Hey. Thanks for the answer. I had my electrician here and he checked to see if there was a short using some equipment. No short in the unit so he feels there may be a problem with the compressor. As soon as the compressor kicks on to heat the unit shuts down. No problem with the circuit breaker either. Have an appt with AquaCal. We will see if they make it here this week. Thanks.

Hi, Sounds exactly like mine, so maybe I shouldn't waste my time/money experimenting. Did aquacal give you a price for the service call? Im frustrated because I expected aquacal to be superioir product. The unit was used one summer before I purchased it and now I used it one year. Not good if the compressor is out after two years! How old is yours?

The service call is $85. Have it for 6 years. We have had to service it twice since then. It works on the same concept as central air, and I haven't had to service those units as much. It seems a lot of heat pumps have problems. It has been a bit of a hassle wondering if it is going to work every year when starting it up. So, we will see how much it costs to fix whatever problem it is. Have to look at paperwork to see if a compressor is under warranty. AqualCal takes forever to get back to you too. This will be a process. Good luck!

Thanks for all your input. I will call a local company, as aquacal warranty only good in original instalation location. At least that's how I read it.
