Monday when I came home from work ,I was greeted with the most god awful smell coming from our bathroon sink vanity. The odor is only in the center part where sink and pipes are. I can stick my nose down the drain and there's no odor also on each side compartment of vanity there's no odor. Down in the basement where pipes go to our septic system, again no odor.. what in the world can it be? Smells like a dead animal. I've cleaned everything and set mothballs in the vanity.. any ideas on how to get rid of this smell or what may be causing it is greatly appriciated.

Thank you for your response, Speedball. The smell is so ucky, I have mothballs under sink{inside vanity} and have cleaned very well. How long does it take for an animal{if that's what this is} to decompose and the odor go away? I live in Ohio and for the past couple weeks we've been freezing or below in temperature > I am really a clean, neat freak and this is so embarrassing

Maybe you should try to get it removed.
I'm very happy to report as quickly as the odor came, it has disappeared... forever I hope, thank you for your interest and time to answer my question

If you're in a cold climate it's possible a critter got into your walls to escape the cold and died in there. Regards, Tom

Did you know that a bowl of vinegar placed in the area of an odor will completely remove the odor with no unpleasant side effects in about 3 days? Works on cat pee too.
