    Wheel Bearing Job
Just charged me $607.00 to do the two front wheels.
Mostly it was for labor. Firestone. 2003 Toyota Echo

    Was it a reasonable price?

I think so. But leads me to think did you really need both sides?
The front hub requires complete disassembly and the use of a hydraulic press to remove and install the new bearings.
And installing new axle hubs to go along with it. It's a pricey job.

You didn't get a bad deal at all. Where I live in Texas, the going rate is $650 to $700, especially if the lower ball joints are replaced. The procedure on your Echo is the same as the procedure for changing front wheel bearings on Civics and some Accords. Here's what's involved:

I wrote-up the procedure, after performing the work on my 1993 Civic, about a year ago. Without specialized tools, the job would be impossible. This is not a job for the typical shade tree mechanic. It's easier and cheaper to replace front wheel bearings on most domestic cars.

Wheel bearing seized / removal inquiry [ 3 Answers ]

Hi, I removed the knuckle from my 1999 Honda Civic and passed it off to a buddy to press out the hub & wheel bearing. In doing so he did NOT remove the circlip/retainer clip and in turn chipped off 80% of the metal in front of the circlip/retainer clip. The third (3rd) picture from this...
