    Strange odour
My check engine light has been on on my 1999 Toyota Camry and the EGR valve has already been replaced... by a friend, the light is still on, I think the valve was changed since November 2006. Now whenI start the car I smell a strange odour and it seem to get worse with the heat running. Is there something wrong with the air circulation process, was some line sopposed to be blown or cleaned out before the EGR valve was replaced. Am I inhaling carbonmonoxide  ? Help

See if code p0401 comes up when diagnosed again. The EGR valve was part of it if it was that, but there's one more small part that comes into play. It's called the EGR VSV (vacuum switching valve) The cars computer turns this little valve on and off and directs EGR flow. Well, if the VSV is stuck, then insufficiant flow is detected and BLING, the light comes on.
On the smell... you don't describe what type. Ie: burning, oil, gas, rotten egg, but I'll take a shot. See if the oil cap has been left off. This goes directly into the heater air intake at the base of the windshield. Open the hood and see if the smell is stronger there or at the back?
I can be of help, but the more I know, the more I can give. Most of these posts are so very vague.

Odour from drains [ 1 Answers ]

We recently moved into an older home (although the plumbing is quite new) and have noticed that when we don't use the bathroom shower, or guest toilet or kitchen sink for a bit (i.e. leave home for a few days) we return to a foul stench coming from these sources. It seems to go away once we start...
