I'm assuming the question is "is it illegal for a company to eliminate you but have your train the person replacing you"

If the job is eliminated there is no need to train anyone. That job no longer exists.

    Hello Judy:

But, if they LIED about the job being eliminated, is it legal to make her train her replacement??

I'm not sure... Certainly, they could fire her WITHOUT lying, but when they LIE, they might expose themselves to a lawsuit.

PS> (edited) Or, upon further reflection, maybe they COULDN'T fire her without lying because they were DISCRIMINATING against her. It could be the OP is an OLDER worker, or a member of some other protected class of worker...

I see nothing illegal - I will guess this is employment at will. The person is being let go because her job is terminated. Maybe it is, maybe it isn't. Either way it's a better financial decision to train the "replacement" than refuse to train anyone and get fired.

Of course, if OP comes back with more info and it is discrimination of some sort, that's a different story.

We really don't have much to run with here and OP has not returned with more details. For all I know 20 people all do the same job. OP is being cut, the position cut but there can be other identical vacancies. Bottom line from what we actually know, yes you can be let go and directed to train another employee to do your job.
