Kids who fight
Maybe someone can help me out on this. I will never understand parents who don't discipline their kids when they fight, particularly young kids. I didn't grow up fighting a lot, with, family or friends. I can only remember 1 really fight I got into as a kid. So I don't instill a fighting nature in my child. Now yesterday while spending Mother's day dinner with family, my son's cousing starting fighting him. My son is not a fighter, I have taught him that fighting is wrong but that he should defend himself when necessary. I wasn't in the room when it occurred but the parents of the other kid (who are my cousins) allowed this to happen and did not discipline him. The kid is only 3 and fights anytime he's mad. My son never fights, not even in daycare because the kids have been taught use their words when he is angry. My son loves his cousin very much and gets so excited knowing when they will see each other, but this always happens. Am I wrong for not wanting him to play with his cousing anymore. Im not trying to caus a rift between me and his parents but I am really fed up with this.

Can you talk to the parents, tell them how you feel? What do you mean by fighting? Some kids at that age are simply more aggressive than others... but fighting? |

Their kid fights all the time, the mother also has a 7 yr old and he fights a lot too, including hitting girls. I just think it happens too often. And yes they teach him to fight. The mother has a very aggressive attitude as well which is why Im hesitant of talking to her. She tends to think she is always right so sometimes its like talking to a brick wall. I never get involved in someone else's parenting style. The only thing I can do is not allow my child to play with kids like that.

I agree - you can always try the "Not in MY house" speech and if the child starts getting physical send or take him/her home but other than that, yes, unfortunately for the children who hit and are going to be shunned, there's little you can do. I have stepchildren. One of their cousins is a biter. I feel sorry for the child but how many times do your children get bitten before you bar the child from your home? |
