10" compound miter saw, double insulated
I have a subject miter saw Model No 315.212340
I've had it for a number of years and it is well past the warranty. I'm finally at the point of trashing it because of the numerous times I've had to dissassemble it to clean the rotating table interface with the base. The plastic handle used for tightening the position of the rotating table had broken so many times that I had to use an adjustable tubing band and Gorrila Glue to make the handle useable. This is as a result of not being able to rotate the table using the handle. I'm prepared to disassemble the unit again to clean the table to base interface in order to return the unit to a useable condition, however, if this problem has occurred on other miter saws of this type is there any type of fix other than that which I have had to do?
I'm not a contractor but have a home woodworking shop where I buid furiture, cabinets, etc for personal use. 95% of my tools and motorized woodworking equipment is Craftsman.
Do I have any recourse for repair at this time, and is there any other fix than having to disassemble?

Why not just order a replacement for the locking handle. Assuming you are speaking of part #21. Appears to be available.

Don't understand the need to dissemble and clean the table to base. Perhaps you have tighten the nut (#4) securing the table to tightly.

I have the same saw and it lets sawdust and PVC chippings through the floor plate and they build up in the miter groove. Periodically have to turn it upside down and use compressed air to clean it out. A VERY thin coat of silicone helps but too much will let more junk get stuck.

I'm interested in buying a sliding miter saw and I saw this one at Lowe's... 12 inch sliding laser... it seems like a very cheap price.. I have to assume it is not as good as others. However I probably would only use it occasionally... does anyone know if it is a decent saw for occasional use?
