No remotes for fan- what can I do?
I bought a house that already had two Hampton Bay light/ceiling fans. The lights work fine by using the ligthswitch, but the fan won't come on. The previous owners didn't leave the remotes. I bought a Hampton Bay remote and receiver combo in an attempt to have a standard remote work, but that doesn't work either (all combinations on the remote for up/down). Is my only other choice to take the fan apart and replace the receiver?

When you installed the new combo in the canopy what part did you find and remove? You did use both the new remote and the new receiver, right?

I haven't installed anything, yet. I was just trying to use a new remote with the existing receiver hoping it was a generic and that I wouldn't have to install the new receiver as well.

Not generic, each has its own specific code. Install a new receiver in the canopy setting all of the little dip switches to #1 position. Open the back of the new remote and set all dip switches to #1 position
