My Windows 7 system tray clock doesn't adjust for daylight saving time. For some reason, after setting it manually ahead one hour but leaving the time zone at Eastern Standard Time (there is no Daylight Saving Time option) it has reset to Eastern Standard time by itself a couple of times, making the clock an hour early. In a move to avoid this automatic resetting I have lied to it and told it I live in Asuncion, Mexico which corrects the time in the system tray clock. Here's my question: what is the accepted means of adjusting the clock in lieu of it being done automatically? As opposed to what I have read elsewhere, the system tray clock does not provide a check box to automatically adjust for Daylight Saving Time. It has a note saying it doesn't adjust for it and a check box asking if I wish to be notified when the clock changes, which begs the question, if it doesn't automatically adjust for Daylight Saving Time why would it ever notify me of a change in the clock that wasn't initiated by me in the first place? Any help would be appreciated.

I have an Acer Aspire 5517 laptop with Windows 7. When I click on the system tray clock time adjustment menu I get a note saying that the clock is not set to adjust for Daylight Saving Time. This is a little ambiguous because it doesn't say that it can't automatically adjust for Daylight Saving Time. It says that it isn't set to automatically adjust. There's a difference. My first question is: can or can't it be set to automatically adjust for D.S.T.
My next question concerns the check box asking if I wish to be notified "when the clock changes". If it doesn't automatically adjust for Daylight Saving Time, what change are they referring to that wouldn't be initiated by me anyway?
Assuming it can't be set to automatically adjust, I simply set the clock one hour ahead and thought I would be done with it. However, a few days later I noticed the system tray clock had reset itself to Eastern Standard Time, the zone I'm in when Daylight Saving Time is not in effect. I reset it for an hour ahead again but a few days later I noticed that once again it had reverted back to Eastern Standard Time and was an hour behind.
So, I lied to Windows and said that I'm in Asuncion, Mexico, whose time during Daylight Saving Time is the same as Rhode Island's, where I live. Here's my question: Considering that in the few days since claiming I was on Asuncion time the clock has not reverted to Eastern Standard Time and the displayed time has been consistently accurate, is this the accepted way of dealing with the situation or is there another accepted way of doing it? I guess what I'm asking is, "What do most people do to solve the problem?" I realize of course that when Daylight Saving Time ends I will have to go back and admit I'm in Rhode Island. Your input is greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Ok. This may not make a whole lot of sense but here goes.

If you select a timezone that does not do DST, the checkbox to "automatically adjust for DST" won't be there. Note: Not all timezones have a daylight savings time.

If you go into the change time zone option and select EST, the checkbox for automatically adjusting DST should be there!

What version of Windows 7 are you using?

This is the second time that the response to my question didn't show until I answered that it didn't show. As soon as I posted it the answer did show. Peculiar.
As far as my question goes, boy is my face red. I must have overlooked the box when I originally set my laptop up or I failed to check the "Automatically Adjust..." box. Thanks ITstudent2006. I'm not sure what I did wrong exactly but it's fine now. Thanks.

Not a problem glad to see you got it figured out. As far as the site malfunction, that's probably because of the new skin isn't quite perfected yet. (you can change skins to an older version like I use and that never happens to me)
