    First off... make sure its not melamine covered particle board or veneer over particle board. In which case you would just ruin the piece. Most newer furniture is one of those two.

    There are a number of ways.. from beating it with a chain and other objects to sandpaper at the edges where wear would occur. Easy in theory... difficult in practice.
