    Buzzing noise from sump pump.
A little while ago I heard a loud buzzing noise from my sump pump. I immediately unplugged it and left it unplugged for awhile. So I plugged it back in because the water was filling up the well it was in. This time it worked and pumped out the water. Its raining really bad and I'm worried that my basement will get flooded. Of course I heard it 10 minutes before homedepot or Lowe's closed. Curious if its going to burn out or something.

This sounds exactly like you were experiencing a "brown out". Not enough amps able to feed the pump motor. Voltage drops below 110 etc. A common phenomenon during a rain storm. A couple of seconds later, eveything's back to normal. I would definitely keep an eye on it. I personally keep a spare sump and volute off to the side just in case. But if it's running fine now, I wouldn't be too concerned. Stop by Menard's price 'em out and go from there.

Sump Pump noise [ 6 Answers ]

Hi, I just had a new sump pump installed about 2 weeks ago. It works well but when it empties there is a loud rattling noise that follows. My assumption is that it is shaking the sewer pipe as the water is being forced out of the house and when the unit shuts off it creates a vacuum that can't...
