    Boiler in Building
I belong to a small condo association (two brick buildings with six total condo units) which currently uses a boiler to heat all units. Three of us have decided to get individual heating for our condos and the others are going to stick with the boiler. The ones who are keeping the boiler have said that an HVAC expert told them that 20% of the energy used by the boiler is dissipated into the walls of the buildings without ever reaching the radiatiors. Therefore, even though we won't be getting any direct heat from the boiler, our walls will be warmed by these pipes and we should contribute to 20% of the gas bill. Our current boiler service company says that this is nonsense and we don't owe any part of the gas bill. Who is correct? Thanks!

I can only give an opinion here, but I agree with your current boiler service company. If you are no longer using the boiler to directly heat your space, then you should not have to pay a dime for that gas. It is not your fault that the pipes were not insulated, and are losing heat between the boiler and radiators(in the walls). I would fight this with every resource I had. Good luck and please let us know how things work out.

Do you have a signed contract with the small condo association ? If so read carefully ,is there anything in it pertaining to the sharing of the expense of the gas bill. Make sure you are doing everything legal

You should not have to pay any part of the bill since you are not getting direct service. If the pipes were insulated properly then you wouldn't be having this problem.
