    A mask
    Hello:

Do I have the right to appear in public wearing a mask? I would say yes. You?

I have never heard anything to the contrary. I would say you certainly have that right.

Though, to be frank, I would definitely do a double take of you and perhaps make a mental note to be cautious of you just in case you're up to something.

    Or, I might just think you're a nut-case :)

    Hello sa:

My right to do so notwithstanding, what do you think the cops would do, if anything?

Is this leading up to a discussion about the wearing of hijabs? :D

Forgive me for not already knowing where you live. It really depends on where you are, actually. I have just now found out that some states actually have outlawed the wearing of masks in public (weird).

Even if it were legal, I would assume there would be a great deal of profiling going on if the cops saw you wearing a mask. They would probably find a reason to approach you and figure out what law you're breaking. Of course, I say that because in Colorado, we're always doing something wrong-the cops just need to figure out what it is we're doing.

    Hello again, NK:

It DID prompt my question. How long before they try to do that here?

SA: I agree with you. The cops WOULD find a way to trample all over my rights.

I didn't think of it in terms of a burqa. I don't really think of burqas as "masks" in the same sense as a ski mask or anything.

Going to refer to Colorado again, where we have a pretty large Islam/Middle Eastern population. I'm very accustomed to seeing women in burqas and that right is respected here. I haven't seen or experienced any of the local law enforcement treating women in burqas differently, which doesn't mean it wouldn't happen... just my experience.

    You certainly can.

And I can, in my state, legally walk down the street with a gun in plain view.

... but you know as well as I do that you risk some kook calling 911 and saying "there's a guy with a mask in front of my business that is scaring me"... or "there's a guy in front of my house with a gun".

In both cases, the person is acting legally, but risking a severe hassle by the law.

That's why I carry my gun concealed... and why you should not wear a mask :)

    ... Isn't life grand in the good old U. S. of A. :D

Don't get me wrong. There are lots of problems here, but it's better than anywhere else in my humble opinion. I'm not ready to move... yet.
