Can I be written up for having attitude?
I was written up for a few things one was for not completing my projects in a timely manner the second was for apparently giving attitude to another manager in another department. I was told by my manager that the write up was not so much about me not completing my projects but more on my attitude. I have spoken to several people and they had mention that HR cannot write you up solely on your attitude as attitude can be very subjective. Is this true?

Oh yes they can... and they can fire you for attitude too.

Another word for it is insubordination.

When you are an AT-WILL employee (assuming you aren't a union employee)... they can actually fire you for any reason they want. Like, they don't need you any longer.

And giving them attitude is giving them reason to show you out the door. Nobody is irreplacible.

    Hello m:

It CAN be subjective... But, as long as you work for these people, THEY are the ones who's subjectivity is important - not YOURS. So, they absolutely CAN write you up for attitude.

When you run YOUR company, YOU can decide what attitude is, and what it isn't.

You're actually very lucky that they decided to give you a warning and didn't just fire you on the spot.

I'd take this very seriously, and I'd change your attitude if you want to keep your job. This is their way of telling you what they expect. It's a heads up. Take it as such and be grateful that you're not out job hunting, but you actually have a chance to improve.

Yes, when I was a manager and ran some larger companies, I often fired any employee that had an attitude with me. So you were lucky it was just a warning. Most times you are fired for it.

Even the CEO has to answer to the Board of Directors... and if they cop an attitude they can be sent packing. Just not as easily as an assistant PEON like so many people essentially are.
