What alternatives do I have when a family member refused to add my name to deed?
Family member purchased a house for me with my own monies because I could not credit qualify; however, neither the mortgage nor the deed is in my name. My name was never added to the deed due to my outstanding credit obligations and we agreed that we did not want to risk liens being attached to property. Now, family member wants house changed over asap and refuses to add my name to deed until I credit qualify for mortgage and change everything completely. Problem is, I have no documentation to my interest in the property, basically, no legal right (in writing). What can I do to get him to add my name to deed?

You can't do anything about the deed, and his reasoning makes good sense to me. Why should he risk his credit over your debts? And what good is it to have your name on the deed if the house is just going to be attached by your creditors? You still can't get a mortgage, right, so HIS lender isn't going to let him change the deed anyway - they have a lien on it, they 'own' it, or at least all but the front steps for the first few years.

You can take him to court over any money you gave him, I suppose.

And since he wants out of this ASAP, all he can do really is sell the house and give you back what he owes you.
PS: Please appreciate what he did for you.
