    Emancipation
I am 17 years old will be 18 at the end of June. My parents have filed bankruptcy and will no longer be able to pay for my education. Can I get emancipated so that I will be able to apply for grants to continue my education? I graduated one year early from high school and am currently in the last quarter of my first year in college. I am considered a sophomore an I will be four classes away from completing my Associates Degree once this term is over.

Emancipation requires that you prove you can take care of yourself. It's purpose is not to enable you to ask for handouts (grants). Can you prove to the court that you would be able to support yourself?

Anyway, as a practical matter, an emancipation petition probably wouldn't be decided by the end of June anyway.

Kudos for all your hard work. Talk to your financial office now for next term as an adult, and start on those scholarships/loans to pay for it, and for the next school after that.

I have 3 nephews who did all their own work getting scholarships of 40K+/year, just in the last 2 years. The money is out there for smart students.

You don't need to be emancipated to apply for grants or student loans.
