    I have a Jandy 2 speed motor to replace a 1 speed motor - help with wiring
    Hi,

    I have a Jandy 2 speed motor to replace a 1 speed motor and need help with wiring. Before removing the old motor, I wrote down the colors of the wires to the old motor terminals (L2 blue, l1 black). Both went to a timer (black on position 2 of timer, blue on position4 of timer). The new motor says to run common to the L1 and high to L2 and low to L3 or L4. I haven't bought a switch for the high and low speeds, so I just wanted to hook up the low speed till I get a second timer or switch.

    My question is which wire is common?. as the new motor diagram looks to be the opposite of the colors of the old motor. Does it matter which to use? I figure since its AC it won't matter.?

    Also the 3 wires that come from the breaker to the timer are 2 blues and 1 green. Its 246v between the blues and 113v between either blue and the green.

    It appears you have a 240V AC supply. Is the new motor 240VAC? On 240VAC, there is no common, both leads are hot. On the single speed, there should be 3 wires, 2 hot and a ground. Multi speed vary by manufacturer.

    Yes the new motor is 240v. So it doesn't matter which hot line to use? I just want to be sure so that wires are not reversed between common(L1) and L2 or L3/L4. As its alternating current, I suspect it doesn't matter... but just want to be sure.

    Makes no difference with 240V.

    Ok. It seems I've hooked it up correctly and the new jandy Stealth 2 speed is bad. I had Jandy come and look at it and they confirmed its bad. They are suppose to come back with a new replacement when it comes in. What are the chances a new motor is bad right out of the box?

    Could have been dropped or?? I've never had a bad one from a factory. This could be a chinese motor too.
