I am getting a divorce and I want to do it on my own. Is this smart we have 2 kids, a home, and his business. We agree on what we both want. Should I seek an attorney

Yes you should have an attorney and by no means do not use the same one that he uses. And you would be smart to get one that specializes in divorce. And maybe a female at that. You have a lot to lose if you don't and your two kids have even more to lose. You may can get married in the future but those kids will only have on dad and he is responsible for there care just as much as you are.

While I generally recommend consulting an attorney in matters of law, this is one place where it may not be necessary. If the divorce is amicable and you both are totally in agreement about distribution of property, alimony, child support and visitation, then you should be able to draw up an agreement that the divorce court will sign off on.
But if there is ANY animosity or disagreement, that's when you need professional help. You might check to see if there are divorce mediators in your area. They have them on LI. These are people who help you hammer out an agreement, mediating any disputes. They are generally less expensive then using a lawyer.

Ok, if you and your soon to be ex agree on everything, property division, child support how to divide the business or pay the other for it.
That is great.
I would still use an attorney to make sure it is all written up right but ifyou both agree, both of you can go hire one attorney just to do the paper work.
Now if you don't agree on everything that is different

I think ScottGem had the right approach. It sounds from your posting that you and your husband are in agreement. More and more people are using mediators to help them when both parties are willing to work together to resolve a problem. You will save a lot of money. You can request a mediator that is a lawyer. This site can help you get started:
AAA - Arbitration, Mediation and other forms of Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR)
But, as ScottGem says, if this is not amicable or there are some major disagreements, you would best be served to hire a good divorce lawyer to protect yours and your children's interests.
Good Luck!
