    1099-misc during OPT
I came to the US in 2000 on F1 visa, and had been on F1 till Aug 05. Sept 05-Aug06 on F1/OPT, and changed to H1 since Sept 06.

Jan 06 during my OPT, I did some statistical analysis for the University Hospital and they paid me by check. Last week, I got a 1099-MISC from the hospital. Just googled "1099-MISC" and found out that I need to file "Schedule C or C-EZ" and "Schedule SE", which are for self-employed. How should I file for 06, any software I can use? Thanks!

    April:

There is some software available for a non-resident tax return. Go to Google and put "nonresident tax return" and you should get several hits.

Yes, you will have to file Schedule C or C-EZ with your Form 1040NR. No Schedule SE is needed because of your F-1 visa status.

Note that, even with software, you CANNOT file a non-resident tax return electronically.
