    How to file if married and living separetly (hawaii and arizona)?

    Is there some sort of legal separation or is this something your considering as a tax advantage ?

    Try running the numbers both as Married Filing Jointly and Married Filing Separately and see which works out to be the most advantageous for you as a couple. Usually MFJ works out better, but with your lower income you may be able to take advantage of certain credits if you file MFS that would otherwise be phased out if you report the higher joint income.
