Ok I'm trying to get to my WI-FI ,and it's asking for a WEP key. Exaclty what is that ,and where do I find my WEP key?

Please reference the above thread, as I go into detail of what a WEP is.

As far as where to find it. If you don't know it then it is safe to assume it is not your router (WiFi). If it is then let me know and I can advise you on step-by-step instructions on explaining, locating, and resetting your router's configuration.

I don't use wireless so I.m a noob at that stuff but I do know that a WEP key is a string of numbers and letters that identify your equipment. That said, WEP is no longer very secure and it's suggested you use WAP instead which is much harder to hack into. The key is sort of an encryption to allow your devices to use the wireless router but not your next-door neighbor. As for where you get it I don't know I haven't played there yet. Perhaps IT Student can help you there.

I just want to correct a few things in your post.

1. WAP is Wireless Access Point. What you meant to say was WPA
2. WEP does not identify your equipment, it authenticates you to the network. (which you did get correct later in your post)

If you read my link (first post) it will explain what WEP is. Appzalien is correct in that WEP is older technology BUT it is still used by many today. If you're using older equipment then WEP maybe the only authentication you can use. Remember, you must find the LCD (lowest common denominator) when it comes to using wireless equipment. If 3 PC's can do WPA and your router only does WEP then WEP it is...

Please read the sticky (link above) and respond with further questions. Again, if this is not your network I will not advise you on how to reset it. That is illegal.
