    W-4, allowances
I am on H1B visa and my wife is on H-4 (she can not work), both from India. My tax withholding on W-4 is based on single status. I want to file a new W-4 changing it to married status. How many allowances should I claim?

Under special IRS rules for foreign nationals, the MOST allowances you can claim is TWO.

This is done to forceover-withholding to ensure that you PAY the taxes that are due and to give you an incentive to file your U.S. tax return after you return to your home country.

Is my new child 1 or 2 allowances on W4 [ 7 Answers ]

I'm trying to figure out how to fill in my W4 to get the most in my paycheck without owing taxes next April. I recently had a baby, therefore, I assume I can include as a dependent. Is he also an eligible child. Or is it an either/or situation? Thanks

Allowances and EIC [ 3 Answers ]

I am a single parent and I need help completing the W-4. I want to ensure that I get most benefit out of it. I claimed too many allowances in the past and now that I have a dependent, I want to make sure I see the full benefits come tax time.
