I have a Lennox G40XH(X) series furnace and my ignitor never turns on (never burns).

I really don't want to call someone in to fix this... any advice is greatly appreciated, but seems all other troubles I have read are further down the path in the furnace startup...

There are many reasons for flame failure and you give no details at all. Are there code lights visible through the small peep hole? Archived Documents | Air Conditioners | Heat Pumps | Installation and Operation Instructions :: Lennox Residential

The LED lights tell me either my igniter is broken, the ignitor circuit is open, there is improper ground, or the voltage line is below 75V. The details are the thermostat is working and I have set it to a temp higher than the actual, the air combustion inductor initiates momentarily and then within a second fails. I checked all the leads and made sure they are properly connected. I am thinking it's the ignitor, but it died all of a sudden and not sure that is normal or if there is usually some warning.

Most furnaces have reset buttons on the lock outs but if you do not know where they are or how to test for a failed part you may still have to call for a pro

I also measured the resistance on the ignitor and it was on order of mega ohms so def something wrong - it fried itself. To remove the ignitor on this model of lennox furnace I had to remove top tray above burner rack, the burner rack itself and then the ignitor. I picked up a new ignitor and the furnace fired up immediately.
